Surya Jazz is LA's new jazz performance series produced by USC Professor Eric Trules. Its mission is to bring together a diverse group of jazz musicians and performers to create exciting and adventerous music and performance. Surya's goal is to have old school pros pass on their music and art to young, upcoming players and performers, and to bring jazz into the live performance genres: poetry, solo performance, theatre, and dance. Surya Jazz launched its opening at the Grand Star Jazz Club in LA's historic Chinatown in September, 2007. "Trules" and USC Jazz Studies pianist, Richard Sears, booked the series, which included LA's great saxaphone player, Azar Lawrence, celebrating John Coltrane's 81st birthday on September 23rd. Look for Surya Jazz in clubs and venues all around LA.
